Assignment of Students to Schools
The Franklin Public Schools has clearly delineated policies and procedures relative to registration of new students to the school district, student moving procedures and assignment to schools.
The school district is comprised of eleven schools: six elementary schools, three middle schools, the high school and the Early Childhood Development Center. At the elementary and middle school level, students are assigned to attend school based upon where their home is located in the town. The district engaged in a comprehensive re-districting plan several years ago which clearly delineates the assignment of students to schools based upon their street address. This has provided an equitable distribution of students throughout the district and helps to maintain reasonable class sizes in all of the schools. The Franklin Public Schools do not participate in intra-district school choice and as such we are unable to accept requests from parents for their children to attend a specific elementary
or middle school which is not in their assigned district. Additionally, the Franklin Public Schools does not currently participate in inter-district school choice and does not accept students who reside in other districts.
