Jazz Band - Monday afternoons 2:00-3:00 - Learn about the Blues scale, syncopation and improvisation!

Here is a copy of the 2011-2012 Band Handbook.  
It will provide you with an overview of band expectations, materials, grading policy, and performance dates.

If you play a school-owned instrument (tenor/bari sax, bassoon, baritone/tuba, percussion) you need to fill out a School-Owned Intrument Use Form.  Click on the appropriate link for the form.

A Contemplation on Music
A very interesting article on the emotional affect that music has on us.  

Mr. Donegan's Handout on Practicing and Spotting the Music Details Article.  
Read the above article that talks about many ideas for efficient practice.  Then fill out the Practice Practicing handout as you work on your music.  It's very enlightening.  

SMARTMUSIC
A fantastic practice tool that you can use with your method book, band music, and virtually any solo that you want to play.  Check out the demo videos on the website.  The student subscription is very reasonalbly priced.  

Great Counting Website!!  Provides great explanations of counting methods and you can even plug in your own tricky rhythm to figure out the counting.   

Virginia Tech Online Dictionary.  
Not sure of a musical term or definition in your music?  You can look up just about musical definition you'll ever need.  Make sure to mark your music once you look it up!

Free Online Metronome
I use this metronome all the time when I practice because it's so convienent -- you just click the tempo you want and it plays through your comuter speakers!  Best of all, you don't even need batteries!

A local orchestra that Mr. Donegan, Ms. Plouffe, Mr. Ledebuhr, Ms. Woods perform in.

Boston Symphony Orchestra & The Boston Pops
We're very lucky to have a worldclass orchestra just down the road from us.  Check out their website and take in a concert.  

San Francisco Symphony Kids
A great site to learn about music.  When you get there click on the "Music Lab" to learn about the basics of music.  There is also an online radio to hear some of classical music's greatest hits.  

New York Philharmonic KidZone
Packed with activities, information about composers and performers, composition projects, and more!  

PBS Kids Jazz
Introduces students to the history of jazz.  There are several biographies of important jazz artists and an informative historical timeline.  

From the Top
An awesome program and website for serious young musicians!  Watch very talented middle and high school students from around the world perform.  There are streaming videos of performances and interviews with the musicians.  I highly recommend that you check it out - WGBH Sundays at 6:00PM
